Four More Weeks!

Hey everyone!  (8/16/2010)

Welcome to my blog! In four more weeks I leave east lansing and will be heading down to the Indianapolis Zoo for my internship! I will be there from September 13 to December 3rd working/interning in the marine mammals department! I am so excited and was completely astonished when I got my acceptance back in late june! I practically cried! This has been a dream of mine since childhood and I am hoping that this internship will open up more doors in the future in this chosen career field.
Back in October 2008, I interned for a week in Monterey, California at Cal State Monterey Bay working with a colony of sealions for their SLEWTHS program with a renowned professor (see above pic). I absolutely loved it and realized it was not enough time to get to spend with some of my favorite animals! :)
A career with marine mammals is such a competitive field and it's hard to get your foot in the door. This is why I am so excited for this opportunity down in Indy. Even getting to experience working with a wide variety of marine mammals for twelve weeks is going to give me good experience and will give me memories I will remember for the rest of my life!
The marine mammals that I will be working with are bottlenose dolphins, harbor seals, sealions, pacific walruses and polar bears. I am still not quite sure specifically what I will be doing...but I DO know one cool thing I get to participate in is narrating for dolphin shows!
